The novelty does wear off after a while, and having to maneuver around the plant pressing several buttons just to harvest some corn or cabbage can get tedious, but it's certainly a unique approach that may appeal to those who wish Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon were a bit more immersive.Īs for exploring the Miasma, there are a lot of really cool ideas at play here. When tending to a plant, you can choose to interact with certain stems and vines, pick specific crops when they're done, watch others grow, and even use magic to help them grow faster. Rather than just pressing a button to water or harvest crops, Homestead Arcana gives players more to interact with. What helps the game stand out is how detailed the farming and foraging are. It's up to the player and their talking cat companion Huckleberry to build their homestead, tend to crops that help them cast spells, uncover the mystery behind the Miasma, and heal the world with their magic. The player's new home has been overtaken by a mysterious corrupting force known as Miasma, which makes much of the map inaccessible from the start. Homestead Arcana starts like many other farming sims with the player character arriving in a new place that has clearly seen better days.
